רוב עולי הרגל המגיעים בתחבורה ציבורית נכנסים דרך התחנה המרכזית של ירושלים בשדרות ויצמן, הצמודה לתחנת הרכבת המהירה יצחק נבון ולתחנת הרכבת הקלה בנייני האומה. מהתחנה אפשר להמשיך ברכבת קלה אל מרכז העיר, או בקווי אוטובוס עירוניים שמגיעים קרוב יותר אל שערי העיר העתיקה. בערבי שבת וחג התחבורה נעצרת מוקדם — יש לתכנן את שעת החזרה מראש.
