Our Commitment
Olei HaRegalim is an initiative to which the entire People of Israel is invited — and this includes people with disabilities. We view making our website accessible as part of the goal itself, not merely a technical requirement. עולי הרגלים לרווחת עולי הרגל בע"מ (חברה לתועלת הציבור) We are working to make the website olimlaregel.com accessible in accordance with the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities Law, 5758-1998, and the Equal Rights for Persons with Disabilities Regulations (Accessibility Adjustments for Service), 5773-2013.
The Standard We Follow
The website was built with the aim of complying with the Israeli standard IS 5568, which is based on the WCAG 2.0 guidelines at the AA level.
What Has Been Made Accessible on the Website
- Semantic structure: The website is built with standard content tags (hierarchical headings, navigation landmarks, main content area), so that a screen reader can navigate it by structure.
- Language and directionality: Each page is defined in the selected display language and its appropriate directionality (Hebrew from right to left), for correct reading by assistive technologies.
- Skip link: At the top of every page, there is a "Skip to main content" link, which is revealed by pressing Tab.
- Full keyboard navigation: All links, buttons, and forms can be operated using a keyboard, and a clear, prominent focus indicator guides the user.
- Accessible forms: Every field has an associated label, mandatory fields are marked, and system messages are announced to screen readers using a live region (aria-live).
- Image descriptions: Content images have alternative text; decorative icons are hidden from screen readers to avoid unnecessary noise.
- Contrast and typography: The color palette was selected for high contrast between text and background, and text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content.
- Responsive display: The website is responsive and works on mobile phones, tablets, and computers, without requiring horizontal scrolling.
- Reduced motion: For users who have set an operating system preference to reduce animations — website effects are disabled.
- No interruptions: The website has no automatic pop-ups, no auto-playing media, and no flashing content.
Accessibility Widget
A floating "Accessibility" button appears on the side of the screen on every page of the website. Clicking it opens a settings panel that allows you to adjust the display to your needs:
- Increase and decrease text size.
- High contrast.
- Grayscale.
- Highlight links.
- Readable font.
- Pause animations.
- Large cursor.
- Increased line and letter spacing.
Your selected settings are saved in your browser and apply to all site pages during future visits; the "Reset settings" button restores the default display. The widget itself is keyboard accessible and announced to screen readers.
Current limitations — full disclosure
We prefer to be transparent about our accessibility status rather than make a sweeping statement:
- The interactive map (the Map page) relies on an external mapping component with partial keyboard and screen reader accessibility. All information on the map is also available in an accessible text version on the Services in Jerusalem page, sorted by category with addresses and hours — no information is exclusive to the map.
- Content from external sources (links to third-party websites) is beyond our control, and its accessibility level is the responsibility of the respective owners.
- A full professional accessibility audit has not been conducted by an external certified accessibility professional. Accessibility adjustments to date have been implemented by our development team in accordance with standard guidelines. We are continuously improving, and every piece of feedback helps us identify gaps.
